CONAKRY, REPUBLIC OF GUINEA, 8th March 2021 – Ivanhoe Liberia and the Société des Mines de Fer de Guinée (SMFG) are delighted to announce that Mr Jamil Sebe, a Brazilian national, was appointed to the position of Project Director for the Nimba Iron Ore Project.

Mr Sebe is a proven leader with over 20 years of wide-ranging experience in the mining industry in senior executive positions in development and operations of large-scale projects, bringing to SMFG his very rich experience in the mining sector and international negotiations. He was Head of Engineering and Project Director for all iron-ore capital-expenditure projects in Brazil’s northern region for Vale, the world’s second-biggest iron ore producer.

More recently, from 2016 to 2019, Mr Jamil Sebe was the CEO of Vale Oman Pelletizing Company LLC in Oman, the largest producer of iron ore pellets in the Middle East. From July 2019 until December 2020, he was Vale’s Director of the Manganese and Pelletizing Department, consisting of 11 plants in Brazil and two in Oman.

His project engineering and management experience in a number of disciplines will be major assets to the Nimba Iron Ore Project.

Mr. Jamil Sebe graduated in 1994 at Pontifical Catholic University of Minas Gerais with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He obtained a Master of Science in structural engineering at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in 1998 and a second Master of Business Administration at Fundação Dom Cabral Business School in 2005. He also completed the Leadership Program at the Sloan School of Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2008 and a Talent Development Program – International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland in 2009.
